Meet Lizann

Hello, thanks for stopping by! I’m Lizann, a military spouse and your new friend! I wanted a space to connect with other military spouses and significant others and share my experiences, so we can get through this crazy military life together.

The motto of this blog is that “we are all in this together.” Military life is hard, no question. Sometimes you wonder if you are the only one struggling to get through. This is a place where new military girlfriends, fiancees, or spouses can get tips and perspective about military challenges like deployments, PCSing, raising children alone, and just missing your service member. Older spouses can relate to these stories and will be laughing along with me.

“We are all in this together!”

The Seasoned Spouse

Why am I seasoned? Well, “seasoned spouse” is a term that military leadership has been using for a while to describe their long-term spouses. I have known my husband since before Boot Camp, and we have walked this military path together for the past 19 years. I’ve been through the sweet and the bittersweet, the challenging and the thrilling. I have been with my husband for 7 deployments (5 of them combat), living overseas, having 5 children together, and moving too many times. Some might say that makes us salty. I say it makes me ‘seasoned.’

I’m someone who has been there, done that, made the mistakes, and wrote the book–literally! (My first book for military spouses, called ‘Welcome to Rota,’ was published in 2015.) I write honestly about the challenges we have faced, but I am also able to smile at the ridiculous things we have been through. And I’m happy to share some of my seasoned stories with you! As you browse my articles you will feel encouraged, supported, and laugh a little. You are welcome on this page.

So please say hi and leave some love! I would love to connect with you. If you need advice or have any questions about military life, send them to me at

Beyond this blog, I am also a published author, a speaker, and a freelance writer. My writing is all directed at helping military families. I have multiple print articles published in Military Spouse magazine, Military Families Magazine, National Guard and Reserve Magazine, and G.I. Jobs. I have published hundreds of digital articles on websites such as Military One Source, MilspouseFest, Task & Purpose,, PCSgrades, Military By Owner, and Military Wife and Mom.

If you are interested in an article for your website or magazine, I can write about military life, deployments, living overseas, PCSing, and almost anything for children ages 12 and under (since I have five children ages zero to twelve).
