Our very first Valentine’s Day was spent with him on his very first deployment. And now he is on is possibly last deployment. And we are missing Valentine’s Day yet again. Hoping after retirement we can actually celebrate this day together.

Valentines can be a difficult time, noticing how yet again, he’s not home for a holiday that almost everyone around gets to enjoy. I try to think of the future, knowing there WILL be days he’ll be home, and we get to celebrate together. I agree that high expectations can lead to great disappointment. Just a reminder that we have to appreciate those days we’ll have together as time is so limited!

Valentine’s Day can be a tough one – thanks for sharing such helpful tips. We’ve been guilty of trying to celebrate 2, 3, and 4 holidays all at once, in attempt to work around ever-changing deployment schedules. It never went as planned 😉 You’re so right that no holiday celebration will make up for the time we miss with our loved ones as a military family.
