Well if he said show as much or as little as you want, then it sounds like it’s a personal choice. If your dress is gorgeous, then enjoy it and feel beautiful!

Hello, I’m being invited to a jrotc military ball, and the major’s direct words were “none of you have much chest anyways, so show as much or little as you want.” However, i was invited, not a member of jrotc, and I am rather busty. The dress I chose is gorgeous and otherwise very modest, but does show cleavage. will it be alright?

That sounds gorgeous! Yes, it’s appropriate. And yes, I would recommend a shawl or wrap. Not for modesty reasons, because it’s fine not to have one, but because large venues like hotel ballrooms are often quite cold. I know I feel more comfortable when I can add a shawl if my arms get cold.

Hi there, I just got invited to my first military ball and the dress I want to get is a dark red, pleated A-line, floor length dress but is strapless. Is this appropriate and should I get a shawl?

Hi Rachel, that’s a great idea! Veterans can definitely wear a suit and tie, and do not need to shave unless he really prefers to.
Flat shoes ate absolutely fine. They are easier to dance in anyway. I hope you both have a great time!

Hi, my hubby is a veteran and wants to take me to the Marine Birthday Ball next year. He can’t fit his old uniform & has a beard. What’s the dress code for him, a suit & a shave? I’m going to choose a gown to match him. Also, I can’t wear heals for medical reasons. Are flats OK?

That’s a good question! There’s no rule against it, and if you already have a white dress you love, I say go for it. But I will say I haven’t seen that color much, so maybe it is discouraged or not advised. I think it’s often associated more with weddings than with a Marine Corps event.
