Hello, thanks for stopping by! I’m Lizann– a military spouse, professional speaker, writer, editor, and voice for the military community. I created this space to connect with other military spouses and significant others and share my experiences, so we can get through this life together.

This is a place where all military girlfriends, boyfriends, or spouses can find encouragement for their military journey. Whether you are going through deployment, facing a PCS move, or you’re a new military spouse trying to figure out how to navigate this life, I’m here for you!

Why am I the “seasoned spouse?” It’s a term to describe experienced spouses. I have known my husband since before Boot Camp, and we have walked this military path together for 23 years. I’m someone who has been there, done that, and wrote the book–literally! I write honestly about the challenges we have faced so you will feel encouraged, supported, and entertained. Whether you consider yourself new to military life, or seasoned, you are welcome on this page.

Lizann Lightfoot Bio

Lizann Lightfoot is an experienced writer, editor, and speaker for the military community. After two decades with her Marine—which included seven deployments, six PCS moves, five children, and three years overseas—she specializes in sharing resources and encouragement with families through the many challenges of military life. As an interviewer and storyteller, she helps others share their stories, so their experiences can help fellow service members and spouses throughout their military journey.

Lizann is known as the “Seasoned Spouse” for creating the blog with that name. She has crafted hundreds of informative articles, published on numerous military websites and in magazines. She is the author of several non-fiction books for a military audience. Her newest book, Open When: Letters of Encouragement for Military Spouses, is available anywhere books are sold online. She previously worked as the Senior Content Editor for PCSgrades, a company specializing in supporting military families through PCS moves. Since 2023, Lizann has been the Director of Marketing and Content for GoVA, a company providing free financial education and wellness resources to the military and Veteran community.

Lizann is a prolific writer, who shares non-fiction resources with the military community. Her goal is to improve the quality of life for military families through her writing. Since 2015, Lizann has self-published two books, appeared in a Christian writers’ anthology, been included in a cookbook with Robert Irvine, and has been traditionally-published by Military Family Books. “Open When” won a Book Award Finalist in 2024 and a Gold Award in 2022. “She Writes for Him” received a silver award in 2021.
